Presentation for Munich’s Olympic and Paralympic Bid

How do you show that a city is ready to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games? Not just with arguments. But by showing what is already there.

In June 2025, Munich presented its bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games in 2036, 2040 or 2044 to members of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

For the event at the Werner-von-Linde-Halle in Munich’s Olympic Park, we developed the content, dramaturgy and visual design of the presentation and helped bring it to life on site.

The presentation featured athletes as well as Bavaria’s Minister of the Interior and Sport, Joachim Herrmann, and Munich’s Third Mayor, Verena Dietl. The event was hosted by Julia Scharf.

The central question behind the entire presentation: Why Munich?

Our work didn’t start with PowerPoint

Before thinking about design, we thought about content.

Together with the project team, we developed the structure and dramaturgy of the presentation. Which arguments really matter? Who should communicate which topic? Where do we need facts and figures? Where does a film work better? Where can animation make complex information easier to understand? And how do we turn all these elements into one coherent story?

Our work went far beyond the slides themselves. We wrote the moderator script for Julia Scharf and prepared briefings for the speakers involved in the presentation.

We also supported parts of the content coordination with the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior and Sport and the City of Munich, preparing briefings to ensure that messages, roles and the overall flow of the presentation worked together.

Because a presentation like this only works when everyone knows more than their individual part. They need to understand how those parts come together to tell one story.

Showing what is already there

One of the key aspects of Munich’s bid was the existing infrastructure of the Olympic Park and the city.

Many of the sports venues originally built for the 1972 Olympic Games are still in place today, have been regularly modernised and continue to be used.

We didn’t just want to say that. We wanted to show it.

We therefore produced films and interviews featuring representatives of the Olympic Park and Munich’s sports department. The newly produced material became an integral part of the presentation, showing how much Olympic infrastructure Munich already has in place.

The message behind it: Munich wouldn’t be starting from scratch.

The Games of short distances

Another key topic was Munich’s compact structure.

Rather than simply describing the distances between relevant locations with facts and figures, we developed animations that visualised connections and travel times across the city.

This turned information into something the audience could immediately understand: many of the locations relevant to athletes can be reached within a short time. The idea of “Games of short distances” became a visible part of the presentation.

For us, that’s the difference between a slide and a good presentation: information shouldn’t just be there. It needs to be understood.

Bringing content, stage and direction together

Alongside the editorial concept, we developed the visual design of the presentation and brought slides, films, interviews and animations together within one consistent look and dramaturgy.

And our work didn’t end with the finished presentation.

For the event itself, we planned the running order, prepared and briefed the speakers, coordinated the different production partners on site and managed both the technical and editorial show direction.

When does a film start? When does the moderator take over? When does the presentation move on? Who delivers which message? And how do content, speakers, stage and technology come together at exactly the right moment?

In the end, that was our real task: bringing all those individual elements together and turning them into one presentation.
